, July, 31 2006 - Law Governing USAID Funding for Microfinance Projects Set to Take Effect October 2006

To encourage others to see this legislation as a catalyst for new innovation and support for achievements in the area of “social performance”, and to address concerns within the microfinance industry about the law (which takes effect October 2006), Grameen Foundation president Alex Counts released a joint statement with three other microfinance leaders: Susy Cheston of Opportunity International (who chairs the Coalition); Joanne Carter of RESULTS (a grassroots anti-poverty advocacy organization) and Kate McKee of USAID (the government agency charged with implementing the law).
