7th Annual WWB Microfinance and the Capital Markets Conference, Sponsored by J.P...

Mar 2009
New York, United States, March, 29 2009 - This two-day event (April 30-May 1, 2009) in New York city will bring together leading professionals from the mainstream financial sector and the microfinance industry, senior managers of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and social and commercial investors. The objective is to provide each group unique opportunities to network, discuss concrete funding deals, learn about key industry capital markets transactions, and tackle key industry issues.

The conference is part of WWB’s continuing efforts to build awareness of ongoing developments and investment opportunities in microfinance. WWB is a leader in hosting Capital Markets events. In 2001, WWB sponsored the first industry capital markets forum, spearheading efforts to convene MFIs, investors, rating agencies, bankers and other financial system players and provide them the opportunity to network among peers, discuss innovative financial solutions, and learn from each other. In 2008, the conference attracted 250 participants, including senior managers from over 40 MFIs globally and 25 microfinance investors.

This year’s conference is comprised of panel discussions of key capital markets topics, and a competition between MFIs working to generate innovative solutions to current industry hurdles. Panels will focus on the volatility of the current capital markets and will discuss key topics which include global and regional insights of the current capital landscape, industry consolidation, the state of debt and equity markets, capital structure optimization, risk management and outlooks for 2009 and beyond.

The conference includes innovative meeting formats, including an MFI competition that will feature case studies on relevant industry topics which will provide the audience the opportunity to gain knowledge from “live” lessons learned and strategies.

WWB wishes to thank J.P. Morgan for its support and sponsorship of the 2009 capital markets conference.
